The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has always been charitable to women in need, and one of its most significant contributions is its Breast Cancer Campaign
A 2020 report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) revealed at least 2.3 million new breast cancer cases are annually reported globally. The signs of this alarming trend include the urgent need for increased awareness, early detection initiatives, and improved access to quality healthcare for affected individuals.
In 1993, Evelyn Lauder saw an opportunity to bring awareness to the disease and address stigmas in women's health. She adapted the pink ribbon symbol, an already powerful emblem for breast cancer awareness worldwide.

Lauder made a difference by gathering people and health professionals who seek to advance change; she put up the non-profit Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF), which, under her leadership, became one of the largest private funders of breast cancer research worldwide.
In honour of The Breast Cancer Campaign’s 30th Anniversary in 2022, the Estée Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation committed to donate US$15 million over five years. This funding will support research grants facilitated by the Estée Lauder Companies’ Breast Cancer Campaign in partnership with BCRF. These grants will contribute to understanding how healthy cells transform into cancerous ones, developing new diagnostic tests and treatments, as well as enhancing research aimed at improving a patient’s quality of life during and after treatment.
“The Estée Lauder Companies has an unwavering commitment to social impact, with The Breast Cancer Campaign at the forefront of these efforts. I am incredibly proud of the progress we have made ever since my mother, Evelyn H Lauder, started The Campaign and co-created the Pink Ribbon over 30 years ago, in 1992,” says Estée Lauder Companies executive chairperson William P Lauder.

“Through this campaign, our passionate employees and partners have come together to advance possibilities for those affected by breast cancer around the world. I am inspired by the impact we have made through our support of research, education, and access to care, but our work is not done – as breast cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide. Together, we will continue powering progress, until we realise my mother’s vision of a breast cancer-free world for all,” he adds.
