An immersive celebration of the iconic hotel’s majestic transformation

Regent Hong Kong marked its return to Victoria Harbour with an evening of high glamour and style this November: a spectacular opening party that showcased its status as a landmark of luxury at the city’s heart.

It featured a sophisticated gala dinner in the venue’s legendary Ballroom, with a star-studded guest list in attendance. Guests arrived to the sight of the hotel’s cascading feng shui fountain, with a red carpet leading the way up its much-loved marble staircase.

Following a champagne reception, the evening kicked off with a captivating ballet performance and a contemporary twist on a traditional lion dance—perfectly reflecting Regent Hong Kong’s marriage of modernity and history and celebrating its trademark blend of eastern and western cultural influences.

Enthralling entertainment continued throughout the night, including dances inspired by ancient martial arts and a performance by renowned erhuist Wan Pin Chu and his father—all complemented by video footage that travelled through the decades, symbolising Regent Hong Kong’s evolution over the years.

As one of the hotel’s owners, Goodwin Gaw, chairman of Gaw Capital Partners and vice-chairman of Pioneer Global Group, remarked in his welcome speech, “We come together to witness the rebirth of a legend, the transformation from the old Regent to the new Regent—a journey that traces the roots of luxury hospitality, redefining standards and shaping the very essence of modern luxury.”

While guests inside the gala enjoyed a gourmet meal prepared by the hotel’s expert culinary team, there was a lively cocktail party inside The Lobby Lounge and Harbourside restaurants. Hong Kong’s first-ever vertical façade performance featured aerial acrobatics in perfect harmony with Hong Kong’s iconic Symphony of Lights show, transforming both the hotel’s façade and the city’s landscape into a dynamic stage. This ground-breaking, custom-designed spectacle was the creation of Il Posto—a collaboration between choreographer Wanda Moretti and musician Marco Castelli.

Magnificent harbour views come as standard at Regent Hong Kong, and the cocktail party was no exception, as guests enjoyed champagne and specially prepared canapés while the famed Aqua Luna junk sailed past, decked out in Regent’s signature teal colour and adorned with the hotel’s logo. Meanwhile, a unique soundtrack was provided by DJ Mengzy’s contemporary beats, combined with Chinese orchestral compositions.

Blending heritage and innovation, the evening was a breathtaking, multi-sensory celebration inspired by the city’s rich cultural identity, and the ideal way to welcome Regent Hong Kong back to Victoria Harbour, as a jewel in the crown of IHG Hotel & Resorts’ portfolio.
