Richard Mille introduces a new automatic movement and reimagined case to the RM 30-01, its iconic tonneau-shaped collection

The allure of Richard Mille lies not simply in the cutting-edge technology of its watches, but in the brand’s ability to infuse each creation with a sense of anticipation and occasion. The RM 30-01 Automatic with Declutchable Rotor continues this tradition, marking an important evolution in both the mechanics and design language of the tonneau-shaped cases that have come to define the brand. At the heart of the watch is the new automatic RMAR2 calibre featuring Richard Mille’s novel declutchable rotor system. As the mainspring nears fully wound at a power reserve of 55 hours, the rotor disengages, removing tension and optimising the torque delivery of the watch. Once the power reserve reaches the 40-hour mark, the rotor reengages to wind the barrel spring.

This innovative mechanism stages an intricate mechanical ballet, with the wearer being able to observe the winding at 11 o’clock. The RMAR2’s architectural display requires a radical reimagining of the tonneau case itself. Sweeping curves yield to diamond-faceted geometry, with the bridges and baseplate made of grade five titanium. One of the references has a caseback and bezel made of 5N red gold and a titanium case middle, while the other is a grade five titanium piece that offers maximum resistance to corrosion and shocks.

In form and finish, the RM 30-01 exemplifies the relentless experimentation that makes Richard Mille one of the rule breakers of the watch world. Limited to 150 pieces, this watch marks another audacious chapter in the Richard Mille story.
